Coronal Mass Ejection (CME)

Corona

Coronal Mass Ejection (CME) is another idea that has been around when it comes to 2012. CME is the mass ejection of electromagnetic materials from the Sun’s atmosphere (Corona) due to internal activities on the Sun and its surroundings. These activities have already been spotted by our satellites over the past years. According to scientists, when this reaches earth, it might create some sort of storms disrupting the earth’s magnetic fields and creating auroras (bright lights in the Northern and Southern hemisphere sky) together with solar flares. Most importantly, it might jam the radio transmissions, electricity and other related sources of transmissions causing black-outs on earth. We have not experienced a higher magnitude ejection that reached earth in the recent years. However, there have been incidents reported dated back to 1859, 1921 and 1960. Especially in 1859, what is known as Solar Super storm had occurred causing shutting down the telegraph systems and creating bright lights in the sky where some thought it was morning when it was really night.
